This thrilling vampire - themed story unfolds in a small town where the lives of humans and vampires intersect, filled with suspense, conflict, and drama.

The story begins with Evan Desmond, a college student with his final exams approaching. To study, he stays at the college library after lectures. One rainy night, when he's walking home alone at 8:45, the weather is dreadful. It's still raining, most street lights are off due to the heavy rain, and the moon and stars are blocked by clouds. As he hurries home, he senses something strange. First, he feels a breeze pass by him, and then he hears and feels the same breeze again. When he turns around, he sees nothing. But soon, he discovers a man standing a few feet away. The man doesn't respond to Evan's greetings or offers of help. When the man finally looks up and their eyes meet, Evan realizes there's something dangerous and evil about him. Evan tries to run but is caught by the man, who turns out to be a vampire. The vampire attacks Evan, biting his neck and draining his blood, and Evan ends up dead.

Meanwhile, at a bar where Vivian, Isabella, and Emily work, they talk about Evan's death. Vivian brings up the news that a guy named Evan Desmond died the previous night, and some girls found his body on their way to school. Isabella and Emily express their shock and sadness, while Vivian makes some insensitive remarks, which causes a bit of tension among them.

On the vampire side, a meeting is called in a transformed banqueting hall. Samson Perry is present, and he's in a bad mood because someone among the vampires has been hunting humans, leaving a trail of bodies. This behavior could expose all vampires to humans and attract vampire hunters. Samson suspects Jacob Saunders and his goons are responsible. When the meeting starts, Felix Taylor reveals the recent human killings. Samson immediately accuses Jacob, but Jacob denies it, saying Samson has no proof. The argument escalates as Jacob flaunts his actions, stating that vampires are predators and they should not fear humans or hunters. He even taunts Samson about being a coward and not having a mate. This enrages Samson, and he attacks Jacob, pinning him to the wall and threatening to kill him if his actions harm the people Samson cares about. After Samson releases Jacob, he realizes he's lost control in front of everyone, including his friends Mark and Vanessa. Feeling disappointed in himself, he decides to leave the meeting.

Overall, the story weaves together the human and vampire worlds, showing the conflict between different vampire values and the potential danger that vampire carelessness poses to both vampires and humans. It also delves into Samson's internal struggles as an immortal vampire longing for a meaningful life and a mate.
