Laura, the wife of Simon Smith, died after being locked in the trunk of a car by her husband. Simon was traveling with Hollie, his new love, and Laura had taken a wrong turn while driving, causing them to miss out on a limited-edition handbag that Hollie wanted. Simon blamed Laura and punished her by locking her in the trunk, despite knowing she had claustrophobia. Laura was forgotten and suffocated to death, while Simon and Hollie continued their relationship.

 Laura's father had an affair and brought his mistress into their home after her mother's death, and she was mistreated. Simon had once protected her and they got married, but he later fell in love with Hollie, the daughter of the mistress. Laura was pregnant but had a miscarriage after Simon accused her of infidelity. She planned a trip to rekindle their relationship but Simon brought Hollie along.

 Laura's body was found in the trunk, and it was revealed that Hollie had hidden acid in the food, which had caused her face to be disfigured. The presence of stray cats alerted Simon and his assistant to the smell coming from the trunk.
